Greetings!
Evil Dr. Nefarious here wishing movie goers all over the world a happy summer 2009! I am a huge movie goer I watch a lot movies of all genre's. These reviews I post will be for films that are in theaters, out on DVD/Video (VHS is dead....if you use one still...damn!) and for films that have been out for sometime.
My ultimate goal is to provide for my readers whether they should spend the various amounts of money to go see a film or not. With theater tickets on the rise as well as even more obnoxious concession prices it can be quite an expensive trip, hopefully, through my reviews I can provide some information about the film so you don't get that nasty taste in your mouth after you have left the theater from a horrible movie. Let me get the bad taste for you...think of me as an official unofficial taste tester. Kind of like what kings did to avoid having their food poisoned, but with out the whole dying part.
Not worry I will give you spoiler warnings and such; I may be evil but ruining a movie is just down right rude. Some of the things I will talk about are of the following:
Actors/Actresses
Length (I am very critical about movie run time)
Plot
Good/Bad
My Rating Scale (I will go over in a moment)
Sequels and such
Style
Directors
Etc...
Very quickly you come to understand what kind of films I favor while others I am quite critical of. For example I am huge Sci-Fiction/Fantasy film fan while I find Horror films to be quite silly and too far fetched to be worth my time. However, my favorite contemporary film is not Sci-Fiction/Fantasy or Action, but actually a very strange version of a Romantic Comedy. Yeah, weird, I know. I have preference for certain actors while I find others to be extremely overrated, but at the same time actors I hate end up surprising me. Things of this nature I will discuss!
Evil Dr. Nefarious' Movie Rating System
There are actually two ratings I will give a film (1) your standard five star rating as an appeal to tradition, and (2) what I am really thinking. (And then you can do whatever you want with that information.)
Blue Rating = Awesome Movie (Worth Movie Ticket and Concessions)
Green Rating = Good Movie (Worth Movie Ticket but perhaps you should sneak your own treats)
Yellow Rating = Could Have Been Better (If you really want to see this in the theaters you may find that bad taste in your mouth.)
Red Rating = Big Waste of Film (Don't see this in any theater, if you must see it then wait til it comes out on Net Flix or Redbox for a $1)
Purple Rating = Movie was not bad; just different or not what I expected. (It's like going in expecting one thing, but then you are taken by extreme surprise.)
So for example I could potentially give a movie a White rating but still give it 4 stars.
You must be thinking at this point, this is not evil or nefarious at all, but that does not matter, I just really like the sound of the name. "Nefarious Movie Reviews" it just rolls off the tongue.
Later this week I will review the J.J. Abrams' Star Trek. So stay tuned!
